  • The Transiting Multi-planet System HD 3167: A 5.7 M ⊕ Super-Earth and an 8.3 M ⊕ Mini-Neptune
HD 3167 is a bright (V = 8.9 mag) K0 V star observed by NASA’s K2 space mission during its Campaign 8. It has recently been found to host two small transiting planets, namely, HD 3167b, an ultra-short-period (0.96 days) super-Earth, and HD 3167c, a mini-Neptune on a relatively long-period orbit (29.85 days). Here we present an intensive radial

  • The Trapezium Stars. Preliminary Results on Detailed Atmosphere Modeling
A spectroscopic study of the Trapezium Cluster stars in the Orion Nebula is presented. We determine the stellar parameters of the two B0.5V stars theta(1}_{) Ori A and D. The variable spectral features of theta(1}_{) Ori C are studied, and some consequences on the modeling of the stellar atmosphere are considered.

  • The triple system HIP 96515: a low-mass eclipsing binary with a DB white dwarf companion
Context: HIP 96515 A is a double-lined spectroscopic binary included in the SACY catalog as a potential young star. It has a visual companion (CCDM 19371-5134 B, HIP 96515 B) at 8.6 arcsec. If bound to the primary, the optical and infrared colors of this wide companion are consistent with those of a white dwarf. Aims: We attempt to characterize the

  • The unseen population of F- to K-type companions to hot subdwarf stars
We present a method to select hot subdwarf stars with A- to M-type companions using photometric selection criteria. We cover a wide range in wavelength by combining Galaxy Evolution Explorer (GALEX) ultraviolet data, optical photometry from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) and the Carlsberg Meridian Telescope, near-infrared data from Two-Micron

  • The unusual V-type asteroid (2579) Spartacus
Asteroid (2579) Spartacus is a small V-type object located in the inner main belt (the main delivery region for meteorites). It shows spectral characteristics different from typical values for Vestoids, which may indicate origin deeper within Vesta then other V-types or a different parent body. We determine physical and dynamical properties of

  • The Unusual Vertical Mass Distribution of NGC 4013 Seen through the Spitzer Survey of Stellar Structure in Galaxies (S4G)
NGC 4013 is a nearby Sb edge-on galaxy known for its "prodigious" H I warp and its "giant" tidal stream. Previous work on this unusual object shows that it cannot be fitted satisfactorily by a canonical thin+thick disk structure. We have produced a new decomposition of NGC 4013, considering three stellar flattened components (thin+thick disk plus
