  • Discovery of a Very Low Mass Binary with the Hubble Space TelescopeNear-Infrared Camera and Multiobject Spectrometer

Hubble Space Telescope Near-Infrared Camera and Multiobject Spectrometer (NICMOS) observations of six brown dwarf candidates in the Pleiades open cluster are presented. One of them, namely CFHT-Pl-18, is clearly resolved as a binary with an angular separation of 0.33". The very low density of contaminating background stars in our images and the

  • Discovery of Kilohertz Quasi-periodic Oscillations and Shifted Frequency Correlations in the Accreting Millisecond Pulsar XTE J1807-294

We report the discovery of twin kilohertz quasi-periodic oscillations (kHz QPOs) in the X-ray flux of XTE J1807-294, the fourth accreting millisecond pulsar (AMP). This is the second AMP exhibiting twin kHz QPOs. In contrast to the first case, SAX J1808.4-3658, the frequency separation Δν between these kHz QPOs is consistent with the pulse

  • Discovery of Ubiquitous Fast-Propagating Intensity Disturbances by the Chromospheric Lyman Alpha Spectropolarimeter (CLASP)

High-cadence observations by the slit-jaw (SJ) optics system of the sounding rocket experiment known as the Chromospheric Lyman Alpha Spectropolarimeter (CLASP) reveal ubiquitous intensity disturbances that recurrently propagate in either the chromosphere or the transition region or both at a speed much higher than the speed of sound. The CLASP/SJ

  • Disk Galaxy Mergers and the Fundamental Plane

We report on an ongoing study of disk galaxy merger simulations and their implications for the Fundamental Plane (FP) of elliptical galaxies.

  • Disrupted Asteroid P/2016 G1. II. Follow-up Observations from the Hubble Space Telescope

After the early observations of the disrupted asteroid P/2016 G1 with the 10.4 m Gran Telescopio Canarias (GTC) and modeling of the dust ejecta, we have performed a follow-up observational campaign of this object using the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) during two epochs (2016 June 28 and July 11). The analysis of these HST images with the same model

  • Dissecting the long-term emission behaviour of the BL Lac object Mrk 421

We report on long-term multiwavelength monitoring of blazar Mrk 421 by the GLAST-AGILE Support Program of the Whole Earth Blazar Telescope (GASP-WEBT) collaboration and Steward Observatory, and by the Swift and Fermi satellites. We study the source behaviour in the period 2007-2015, characterized by several extreme flares. The ratio between the
