  • Unveiling Chiron, an odd ice ball, with Webb: Ice and Gas Phases Revealed
We present unprecedented findings on (2060) Chiron using James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) NIRSpec imaging and spectroscopy from cycle 1 GTO program 1273. Our study (Pinilla-Alonso et al. 2024 A&A Letter) marks the first detection of carbon dioxide (CO 2) and methane (CH 4) active outgassing and coma emission at heliocentric distances of ~18 au

  • Two black widow pulsars in the optical and X-rays
Context. Two millisecond pulsars, PSR J1513‑2550 and PSR J2017‑1614, with spin periods of about 2.1 and 2.3 ms were recently discovered in the radio and γ-rays and classified as black widow pulsars in tight binary stellar systems with orbital periods of about 4.3 and 2.3 h. Aims. Our goals are to reveal the fundamental parameters of both systems

  • TOI-2379 b and TOI-2384 b: two super-Jupiter mass planets transiting low-mass host stars
Short-period gas giant planets have been shown to be significantly rarer for host stars less massive than the Sun. We report the discovery of two transiting giant planets - TOI-2379 b and TOI-2384 b - with low-mass (early M) host stars. Both planets were detected using Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite photometry and for both the transit signal

  • The role of active galactic nucleus feedback on the evolution of dwarf galaxies from cosmological simulations: Supermassive black holes suppress star formation in low-mass galaxies
Aims. Recent observational studies suggest that feedback from active galactic nuclei (AGNs) may play an important role in the formation and evolution of dwarf galaxies, an issue that has received little attention from a theoretical perspective. Methods. We investigated this using two sets of 12 cosmological magnetohydrodynamic simulations of the

  • The RAdio Galaxy Environment Reference Survey (RAGERS): Evidence of an anisotropic distribution of submillimeter galaxies in the 4C 23.56 protocluster at z = 2.48
Context. High-redshift radio(-loud) galaxies (HzRGs) are massive galaxies with powerful radio-loud active galactic nuclei (AGNs) and serve as beacons for protocluster identification. However, the interplay between HzRGs and the large-scale environment remains unclear. Aims. To understand the connection between HzRGs and the surrounding obscured

  • The R-process Alliance: Fifth Data Release from the Search for R-process-enhanced Metal-poor Stars in the Galactic Halo with the GTC
Understanding the abundance pattern of metal-poor stars and the production of heavy elements through various nucleosynthesis processes offers crucial insights into the chemical evolution of the Milky Way, revealing primary sites and major sources of rapid neutron-capture process (r-process) material in the Universe. In this fifth data release from
