  • Internal Proper Motions in the Eskimo Nebula
We present measurements of internal proper motions at more than 500 positions of NGC 2392, the Eskimo Nebula, based on images acquired with WFPC2 on board the Hubble Space Telescope at two epochs separated by 7.695 yr. Comparisons of the two observations clearly show the expansion of the nebula. We measured the amplitude and direction of the motion

  • Herschel/PACS: Constraining clumping in the intermediate wind region of OB stars
At present, it is well established that previously accepted mass-loss rates (Ṁ) of luminous OB stars may be overestimated when clumping is neglected. Our Herschel/PACS Far-Infrared (Far-IR) observations of a set of OB stars allow us to improve our knowledge of clumping stratification, constraining clumping properties in intermediate wind regions

  • Formation of S0 galaxies through mergers. Bulge-disc structural coupling resulting from major mergers
Context. Observations reveal a strong structural coupling between bulge and disc in S0 galaxies, which seems difficult to explain if they have formed from supposedly catastrophic events such as major mergers. Aims: We face this question by quantifying the bulge-disc coupling in dissipative simulations of major and minor mergers that result in

  • First Results from the Survey of the MAgellanic Stellar History (SMASH)
Clear observational signatures of hierarchical galaxy formation have been found around the Milky Way and other nearby massive galaxies. However, the build-up of smaller dwarf galaxies and the extent to which they harbor relics of past interactions such as stellar halos and substructure is not well-known. In an effort to observationally constrain

  • First OB-stars in the iron-poor Local Group galaxy sextans A
The study of the early Universe relies on our ability to check our models by analyzing the behaviour of astrophysical objects at conditions close to those of the first epochs. Low-metallicity nearby galaxies with young massive stars may be used as laboratories to study these objects that have been proposed as active agents of the reionization of

  • FERRE: A Code for Spectroscopic Analysis
FERRE is a data analysis code written in FORTRAN90. It matches models to data, taking a set of observations and identifying the model parameters that best reproduce the data, in a chi-squared sense. Model predictions are to be given as an array whose values are a function of the model parameters, i.e. numerically. FERRE holds this array in memory
