  • Multiple stellar populations in Galactic globular clusters: observational evidence
An increasing number of both photometric and spectroscopic observations over the last years have shown the existence of distinct sub-populations in many Galactic globular clusters and shattered the paradigm of globulars hosting single, simple stellar populations. These multiple populations manifest themselves in a split of different evolutionary

  • Multi-instrument measurement campaign at Paranal in 2007. Characterization of the outer scale and the seeing of the surface layer
Aims: Within the framework of site qualification for the future European large telescope E-ELT, a campaign of measurements was carried out for ten nights in December 2007 at Paranal using six independent instruments. Methods: To characterize the optical turbulence, two techniques were used: the statistical analysis of the fluctuations of the angle

  • MAGIC Upper Limits for Two Milagro-detected Bright Fermi Sources in the Region of SNR G65.1+0.6
We report on the observation of the region around supernova remnant G65.1+0.6 with the stand-alone MAGIC-I telescope. This region hosts the two bright GeV gamma-ray sources 1FGL J1954.3+2836 and 1FGL J1958.6+2845. They are identified as GeV pulsars and both have a possible counterpart detected at about 35 TeV by the Milagro observatory. MAGIC

  • Low-resolution spectroscopy of main sequence stars belonging to 12 Galactic globular clusters. I. CH and CN band strength variations
Context. Globular clusters show star-to-star abundance variations for light elements that are not yet well understood. The preferred explanation involves a self-enrichment scenario, within which two subsequent generations of stars co-exist in globular clusters. Observations of chemical abundances in the main sequence and sub-giant branch stars

  • Limits on the quiescent radio emission from the black hole binaries GRO J1655-40 and XTE J1550-564
We present the results of radio observations of the black hole binaries GRO J1655-40 and XTE J1550-564 in quiescence, with the upgraded Australia Telescope Compact Array. Neither system was detected. Radio flux density upper limits (3σ) of 26 μJy (at 5.5 GHz), 47 μJy (at 9 GHz) for GRO J1655-40 and 1.4 mJy (at 1.75 GHz), 27 μJy (at 5.5 GHz), 47 μJy
