  • The Magellanic Clouds as a Template for the Study of Stellar Populations and Galaxy Interactions
The Magellanic System represents one of the best places to study the formation and evolution of galaxies. Photometric surveys of various depths, areas and wavelengths have had a significant impact on our understanding of the system; however, a complete picture is still lacking. VMC (the VISTA near-infrared YJKs survey of the Magellanic System) will

  • Gemini 3D-Spectroscopy of IRAS 17002+5153 and IRAS 07598+6508: Evidence of Two New Exploding BAL + IR + Fe ii QSOs.
New results of a program to study BAL + IR + FeII QSOs, using Gemini/GMOS-IFU spectroscopy and HST data, are presented for IRAS 17002+5153 and IRAS 07598+6508. In particular, the Gemini GMOS-IFU data show that: (i) IRAS 17002+5153: the 3D spectra in the region of the shells (at radius of 1.3") show multiple emission line components (with Δ V~280-

  • Formación y evolución química de cúmulos estelares en la Nube Menor de Magallanes
We present age and metallicity determinations for 49 star clusters in the SMC from Washington CT1 photometry and integrated spectra. Two of the observed clusters resulted to be relatively old object (age ~ 6.5 Gyr). In addition, we confirm that the further a cluster is from the center of the galaxy, the older and more metal-poor it is, with some

  • Bremsstrahlung Emission during α-DECAY of 226Ra
We obtained the spectrum of probability of the bremsstrahlung emission accompanying the α-decay of 226Ra (Eα = 4.8 MeV) by measuring the α-γ coincidences and using the model presented in our previous study on the α-decay of 214Po (Eα = 7.7 MeV). We compare the experimental data with the quantum mechanical calculation and find a good agreement
