  • Discovery of a very luminous megamaser during a radio flare in the Seyfert 2 galaxy Mrk 348
We report the detection of a new H_2O megamaser in the Seyfert 2 galaxy Mrk 348 with the MPIfR 100 m telescope in Effelsberg. With an apparent isotropic luminosity of L_H_2O =~ 420L_sun the maser is the third most luminous maser discovered so far. The detected line is unusually broad (Delta v =~ 130 km s-1), is redshifted by ~ 130 km s-1 from the

  • Discovery of 1RXS J171824.2-402934 as an X-ray burster
We report the first-time detection of a type-I X-ray burst from a position that is consistent with that of 1RXS J171824.2-402934. The detection was made on Sep 23, 1996, with the Wide Field Cameras on board the BeppoSAX satellite. The burst had a peak intensity of 1.3 Crab units in 2 to 28 keV and is relatively long (at least 3.5 min). Analysis of

  • DENIS Catalogue toward Magellanic Clouds (DCMC) (Cioni+ 2000)
This is the first version of a complete near-IR point source catalogue towards the Magellanic Clouds extracted from the data obtained with the DEep Near Infraread Survey of the Southern Sky (DENIS). The catalogue covers an area of 19.87x16 square degrees centered on (05:27:20-69:00:00) for the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC), and 14.7x10 square

  • Deficiency of ``Thin'' Stellar Bars in Seyfert Host Galaxies
Using all available major samples of Seyfert galaxies and their corresponding closely matched control samples of nonactive galaxies, we find that the bar ellipticities (or axial ratios) in Seyfert galaxies are systematically different from those in nonactive galaxies. Overall, there is a deficiency of bars with large ellipticities (i.e., ``thin''
