  • Quadrupolar Planetary Nebulae: A New Morphological Class
In the context of the Instituto de Astrofisica de Canarias (IAC) morphological survey of Galactic planetary nebulae (PNs), a new morphological class has been found, and we define their members as quadrupolar PNs. We have found five quadrupolar objects whose lobes are, in pairs, symmetric with respect to two different axes. Among these PNs, three

  • Orbital and quasi-periodic optical variations in the black hole X-ray binary V404 CYG
We present 2 weeks of CCD photometry of V404 Cyg, the optical counterpart of the soft X-ray transient (SXT) GS 2023+338, taken from La Palma in 1992 July. The R-band light curve shows a clear 0.3-mag ellipsoidal modulation on the estabished 6.5-d orbital period, but with substantial (up to 0.3 mag) superposed variations that occur during each night

  • Enhanced inertia of thin magnetic flux tubes.
Accelerated bodies immersed in a fluid experience enhanced inertia due to the associated co-acceleration of a certain volume of fluid in their environment. We discuss the concept of enhanced inertia in the framework of the approximation of thin flux tubes, which is widely used to describe the dynamics of concentrated magnetic structures in

  • Calibration and analysis of the GOLF experiment
The solar core is the region where all the nuclear reactions take place and, therefore, where the energy is generated. Understanding the physics of these internal layers, the theory of solar and stellar structure can be settled into form grounds. However this is the most unknown region of the Sun. Helioseismology, mainly through the gravity modes
