  • The TESS Grand Unified Hot Jupiter Survey. I. Ten TESS Planets
Hot Jupiters-short-period giant planets-were the first extrasolar planets to be discovered, but many questions about their origin remain. NASA's Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS), an all-sky search for transiting planets, presents an opportunity to address these questions by constructing a uniform sample of hot Jupiters for demographic

  • The star formation rates of QSOs
We examine the far-infrared (FIR) properties of a sample of 5391 optically selected QSOs in the 0.5 < z < 2.65 redshift range down to log [νL ν, 2500(erg s -1)] > 44.7, using SPIRE data from Herschel-ATLAS. We split the sample in a grid of 74 luminosity-redshift bins and compute the average optical-IR spectral energy distribution (SED) in each bin

  • The small-ELF project: toward an ultra-large coronagraphic optical receiver
The small ExoLife Finder (sELF) telescope is a 3.4m diameter fixed pupil tracking Fizeau interferometer. Its design relies on several new technologies the ELF-PLANETS consortium has championed that will enable large narrow-field optical coronagraphic direct imaging. These distinguish it from other segmented aperture telescopes by its light weight

  • The real-time computing and instrument control software for CaNaPy
CaNaPy is an LGS-AO experimental facility of new generation, currently being assembled by the research institutes participating to the project (INAF, IAC and Durham) and the European Southern Observatory. CaNaPy operation is at visible wavelengths, with a 63 W 589 nm laser used in pulsed mode. The project is lead by the ESO Technology Development

  • The Pristine survey - XVIII. C-19: tidal debris of a dark matter-dominated globular cluster?
The recently discovered C-19 stellar stream is a collection of kinematically associated metal-poor stars in the halo of the Milky Way lacking an obvious progenitor. The stream spans across an arc of ~15° in the sky, and orbit-fitting suggests an apocentric distance of ${\sim} 20\, \mathrm{kpc}$ and a pericentre of ${\sim} 10\, \mathrm{kpc}$. The

  • The Pristine survey - XVII. The C-19 stream is dynamically hot and more extended than previously thought
The C-19 stream is the most metal-poor stellar system ever discovered, with a mean metallicity [Fe/H] = -3.38 ± 0.06. Its low metallicity dispersion (σ [Fe/H] < 0.18 at the 95 per cent confidence level) and variations in sodium abundances strongly suggest a globular cluster origin. In this work, we use Very Large Telescope (VLT)/UV-Visual Echelle
