  • Into the storm: diving into the winds of the ultra-hot Jupiter WASP-76 b with HARPS and ESPRESSO
Context. Despite swift progress in the characterisation of exoplanet atmospheres in composition and structure, the study of atmospheric dynamics has not progressed at the same speed. While theoretical models have been developed to describe the lower layers of the atmosphere, and independently, the exosphere, little is known about the intermediate

  • Identifying the fingerprints of r-process heavy metals in a short GRB
The afterglow of some short GRBs displays a late-time rebrightening, visible in the near-infrared a few days after the burst. This late-time bump could be explained as kilonova emission, providing a direct link to neutron star mergers, and a compelling proof for the synthesis of heavy nuclei through the rapid neutron capture process (r-process). We

  • HST grism spectroscopy of z ∼ 3 massive quiescent galaxies. Approaching the metamorphosis
Tracing the emergence of the massive quiescent galaxy (QG) population requires the build-up of reliable quenched samples by distinguishing these systems from red, dusty star-forming sources. We present Hubble Space Telescope WFC3/G141 grism spectra of ten quiescent galaxy candidates selected at 2.5 < z < 3.5 in the COSMOS field. Spectroscopic

  • Gaia Early Data Release 3. Updated radial velocities from Gaia DR2
Context. Gaia's Early Third Data Release (EDR3) does not contain new radial velocities because these will be published in Gaia's full third data release (DR3), expected in the first half of 2022. To maximise the usefulness of EDR3, Gaia's second data release (DR2) sources (with radial velocities) are matched to EDR3 sources to allow their DR2

  • First bolide over the Canary Islands with trajectory and orbit reconstructed by a national team
The constant influx of new material from space to Earth provides an opportunity to delve into the processes that took place in the formation of the Solar System [1]. Some fragments of asteroids or comets have been wandering through space remaining practically unaltered, ending their journey upon impact with our atmosphere producing the spectacular

  • Extending the evolution of the stellar mass-size relation at z ≤ 2 to low stellar mass galaxies from HFF and CANDELS
We reliably extend the stellar mass-size relation over 0.2 ≤ z ≤ 2 to low stellar mass galaxies by combining the depth of Hubble Frontier Fields with the large volume covered by CANDELS. Galaxies are simultaneously modelled in multiple bands using the tools developed by the MegaMorph project, allowing robust size (i.e. half-light radius) estimates
