  • Detection of an ionized gas outflow in the extreme UV-luminous star-forming galaxy BOSS-EUVLG1 at z = 2.47
BOSS-EUVLG1 is the most ultraviolet (UV) and Lyα luminous galaxy to be going through a very active starburst phase detected thus far in the Universe. It is forming stars at a rate of 955 ± 118 M ⊙ yr ‒1. We report the detection of a broad Hα component carrying 25% of the total Hα flux. The broad Hα line traces a fast and massive ionized gas outflow

  • Constraining stellar population parameters from narrow band photometric surveys using convolutional neural networks
Upcoming large-area narrow band photometric surveys, such as Javalambre Physics of the Accelerating Universe Astrophysical Survey (J-PAS), will enable us to observe a large number of galaxies simultaneously and efficiently. However, it will be challenging to analyse the spatially resolved stellar populations of galaxies from such big data to

  • Combining magneto-hydrostatic constraints with Stokes profiles inversions. II. Application to Hinode/SP observations
Context. Inversion techniques applied to the radiative transfer equation for polarized light are capable of inferring the physical parameters in the solar atmosphere (temperature T, magnetic field B, and line-of-sight velocity v los) from observations of the Stokes vector (i.e., spectropolarimetric observations) in spectral lines. Inferences are

  • CO Excitation, Molecular Gas Density, and Interstellar Radiation Field in Local and High-redshift Galaxies
We study the carbon monoxide (CO) excitation, mean molecular gas density, and interstellar radiation field (ISRF) intensity in a comprehensive sample of 76 galaxies from local to high redshift (z ∼ 0-6), selected based on detections of their CO transitions J = 2 → 1 and 5 → 4 and their optical/infrared/(sub)millimeter spectral energy distributions

  • Closing in on the launching sites of AGN outflows
Supermassive black holes, and the outflows they drive, are an established part of our understanding of galaxy evolution. Indeed, cosmological models rely on outflows to reproduce the observed scaling relations. But the enormous range of outflow rates that are measured for AGN of the same luminosity, highlights a gaping hole in our understanding of

  • Black Hole Jet Launching Physics with MIRI
Despite ~50 years of compact object studies in the Galaxy, the physics of relativistic jet launching remains an active and open field of research. There has been important recent progress in development of state-of-the-art MHD simulations, but how these determine the emission properties is now a major focus. A deeper understanding requires us to
