  • STUDY OF BINARY CENTRAL STARS OF PLANETARY NEBULAE WITH GALEX AND COROLLARY OPTICAL SURVEYS
Planetary Nebulae (PNe) are the descendants of low- and intermediate-mass stars (0.8--8.0 M☉). The shape of the PN takes place at some point between the asymptotic giant branch (AGB) and the white dwarf (WD) stellar phases. Among the astrophysical phenomena, the PNe shows an impressive variety of complex morphologies. In fact, most of the PNe known

  • Structure of the outer galactic disk with Gaia DR2
In this work, we study the structure of the outer Galactic disk up to Galactocentric distance R=20 kpc. We use the Gaia DR2 data on which we apply a deconvolution technique in the parallax errors. We recover for each line of sight the distribution of stars as a function of distance, which we use to construct density maps, that we analyze. We study

  • Strong chemical tagging with APOGEE: 21 candidate star clusters that have dissolved across the Milky Way disc
Chemically tagging groups of stars born in the same birth cluster is a major goal of spectroscopic surveys. To investigate the feasibility of such strong chemical tagging, we perform a blind chemical tagging experiment on abundances measured from APOGEE survey spectra. We apply a density-based clustering algorithm to the 8D chemical space defined

  • Statistical studies of spectral variability in blazars
Blazars are a subclass of Active Galactic Nuclei whose jets closely point to the Earth, characterized by a strong flux variability. These relativistic jets are the main contribution to their optical emission, however, it is possible that other regions of the source (e.g. the host galaxy or the accretion disk) contribute significantly to the

  • Spectral Indices in the NIR for Studying Stellar Populations
So far, detailed stellar population studies, based on the absorption line strengths have been concentrated mainly in the optical spectral range. In this work, we supplement spectral indices of the Lick system in the optical with additional indices in the near-infrared (NIR). We optimised the definition of the indices to be sensitive to the main

  • Searching for electromagnetic counterparts to gravitational-wave merger events with the prototype Gravitational-Wave Optical Transient Observer (GOTO-4)
We report the results of optical follow-up observations of 29 gravitational-wave (GW) triggers during the first half of the LIGO-Virgo Collaboration (LVC) O3 run with the Gravitational-wave Optical Transient Observer (GOTO) in its prototype 4-telescope configuration (GOTO-4). While no viable electromagnetic (EM) counterpart candidate was identified
