  • The Gaia-ESO survey: Calibrating a relationship between age and the [C/N] abundance ratio with open clusters
    Context. In the era of large high-resolution spectroscopic surveys such as Gaia-ESO and APOGEE, high-quality spectra can contribute to our understanding of the Galactic chemical evolution by providing abundances of elements that belong to the different nucleosynthesis channels, and also by providing constraints to one of the most elusive

  • The Changing Rotational Light-curve Amplitude of Varuna and Evidence for a Close-in Satellite
    From CCD observations carried out with different telescopes, we present short-term photometric measurements of the large trans-Neptunian object Varuna in 10 epochs, spanning around 19 years. We observe that the amplitude of the rotational light curve has changed considerably during this period of time from 0.41 to 0.55 mag. In order to explain this

  • The binary millisecond pulsar PSR J1023+0038 - II. Optical spectroscopy
    We present time-resolved optical spectroscopy of the `redback' binary millisecond pulsar system PSR J1023+0038 during both its radio pulsar (2009) and accretion disc states (2014 and 2016). We provide observational evidence for the companion star being heated during the disc state. We observe a spectral type change along the orbit, from ˜G5 to ˜F6

  • The Atacama Large Aperture Submillimeter Telescope (AtLAST)
    Overview of the science cases for, and technologies required for a new single dish sub-mm telescope. AtLAST is envisioned as a 50m diameter single dish with a 1deg field of view that will be able to map the large scale structures of the Universe inaccessible to ALMA with mapping speeds 1000s of times faster than current or planned facilities.

  • Testing the surface evolution hypothesis of JFCs with ground photometric observations
    We have identified a correlation of increasing albedo for increasing phase-function slope using ground-based and spacecraft observations of 14 Jupiter-family comets (JFCs). This can be interpreted as an evolutionary path of JFCs, according to which dynamically young JFCs start their evolution with relatively high albedos and steeper phase functions

  • Survival of molecular gas in a stellar feedback-driven outflow witnessed with the MUSE TIMER project and ALMA
    Stellar feedback plays a significant role in modulating star formation, redistributing metals, and shaping the baryonic and dark structure of galaxies - however, the efficiency of its energy deposition to the interstellar medium is challenging to constrain observationally. Here we leverage HST and ALMA imaging of a molecular gas and dust shell (M_{
