Descripción
NGC 2841 has been mapped in the J and K near-infrared bands out to some 10 kpc from its center. Maps and radial profiles in micron(J), micron(K) and J-K are presented, and profiles in B-J and B-K derived. The bulge and disk are very well distinguished, but there is also an indication of a bluer ring in the disk between 2 and 7 kpc galactrocentric distance. This is accentuated when an improved technique for calibrating intragalactic dust reddening, based on H I and H surface densities is applied. This annular region of enhanced star formation rate coincides with the presence of an enhanced H2 distribution, derived from CO measurements by Young and Scoville (1982).
